Dragons arrive in Wales!

We're rather excited to have taken delivery of an unusual take on Wales' familiar national icon - the dragon. We've been working with Ocean Sole in Kenya who clean up beaches in Nairobi by turning discarded flip flops into works of art. The unique flip flop dragons are made by moulding different flip flop soles together and carving them into intricate shapes.

We've been selling other flip flop animals for the past 18 months and we wanted to commission something that expressed the special relationship between Wales and Africa.

We're proud that Wales and Africa have a strong connection and that Wales is the world's first Fair Trade Nation. We thought that a specially designed flip flop dragon would be the perfect way of linking our two countries and supporting this wonderful and worthwhile project in Kenya. Due to the nature of their creation, each dragon is completely unique, making it all the more special.

The Ocean Sole project has both environmental and social benefits. The rubber soles can be swallowed and suffocated on by fish and can obstruct turtle hatchlings from reaching the sea. The artisans involved in the project are paid a fair wage and treated according to fair trade principles.

We love to find projects with a holistic approach to sustainability. These unique pieces have an educational aspect - they encourage people to think about their natural environment and the importance of protecting it. But importantly, buying these products supports the wellbeing and livelihoods of talented artisans in Kenya.

The unique flip flop dragons are £50 each, and you can order yours here.
