Slightly off-topic, but who doesn't like pizza? When Louise and I made a flying visit to London at the weekend, there was one place we knew we had to make a stop at. We'd read the reviews, we'd drooled over the photos, now it was time to get stuck in!
We found Picky Wops in an unassuming strip of shops on a busy Fulham street, the usual mix of bookies, takeaways, convenience stores and more bookies. As we wandered in we realised we hadn't been the only ones to have had the same bright idea, as the place was packed. We grabbed the last couple of seats at the counter and began to check out the menu.
The first thing that strikes you about Picky Wops isn't the amazing aroma of pizza, or the cool decor - it's the welcoming, friendly, knowledgeable staff running the show. Andrea and Cristiano, plus the rest of the team, went the extra mile to make us feel welcome and walk us through the menu. And this is where Picky Wops gets interesting.
What makes this place special is the bases. They offer six different styles of base, some of which give the traditional pizza a complete makeover. Choices include turmeric, hemp and spirulina, and each has a subtle yet distinctive taste. After this come the toppings, all freshly prepared to order, and cooked in the blazing furnace behind the counter. Louise went for the Protein Punch, featuring doner kebab and pesto, while I tried the Hot Dickens with salami and jalapenos.
Picky Wops lives up to its billing. For me, it's in the top three pizzas I've had in London, and I have worked my way through a few. Sadly they don't yet deliver to Hay on Wye, but it's surely only a matter of time! Until then, it's a new must-visit destination for us any time we're in London.
PS did I mention that all the pizzas are 100% vegan? That's actually the least interesting thing about the place though. With pizza this good, you won't miss out on anything!

We have blogged about our range of throws before, but they continue to be an instant classic in the shop and online. Our supplier tells us that they are expecting new designs to be available from India very shortly, so we'll keep you posted on that. In the meantime we now have a range of lovely rugs to match our "Diamond Weave" pattern throws.
The rugs are 90cm x 60cm so would work perfectly at the end of a bed with the matching throw draped over the bedspread. Or perhaps in a lounge to turn an old sofa into a more modern, stylish centre of relaxation!
We think the rugs and throws are great value at just £20, and remember we have free P&P in the UK plus free, no hassle returns

Dear friends of Eighteen Rabbit,
It is with great regret that we have to announce that following the triggering of Article 50 on Wednesday 29th March, we have had to dramatically change our business model to reflect the changing nature of business in the UK. We want to reassure our customers that we will always have their best interests at heart, but we do also have to be realistic about the effects that Brexit will have on our business and the projects we support. There will be three main changes which we will be phasing in over the next month:
1. With immediate effect we will no longer be able to accept pounds sterling. As a business which prides itself on a global outlook, we have moved our banking to Banco Azteca, a small bank based in rural Mexico. They offer outstanding customer service, but regrettably we can no longer pay in pounds and pence. Plus their nearest branch is around 5000 miles away. Credit card payments will be unaffected.
2. The upside of this is that we ARE now able to accept Mexican Pesos. Feel free to raid that drawer you keep all your leftover holiday money in!
3. Finally, as Hay is officially not part of the UK following Richard Booth's declaration of independence 40 years ago this very day, we are technically not actually in the EU at the moment. We will therefore be joining with other local traders to apply for EU membership as soon as possible. We hope this will lead to a greater sense of fraternity with our continental brothers and sisters, as well as a plentiful supply of baguettes, Iberico ham, lasagne, etc which will act as a powerful tourist attraction once the rest of the UK realises what they're missing out on.

Since we started stocking this incredible range of jewellery the response has been amazing. They are popular with all ages, but we suspect that a reasonable proportion go as end of term thank you gifts to hard-working teachers! We were delighted when the range was expanded recently, and we love te new designs, all of which now come in stylish presentation boxes.
The new necklaces include a subtle cube design, alongside a more extrovert triangle and five point styles. The cubes are also replicated in a new earring design.
Alongside these we have new stock of most of the rest of this range, including the single colour "dart" style that has been the perennial best seller.
The prices remain the same - £8 for earrings and bracelets, £12 for necklaces, all with free UK P&P. We hope you love them as much as we do!

We decided to try these lovely throws in the shop last week and promptly sold out as soon as we had put them on sale! I think customers really liked the choice of vibrant colours in the Diamond throws or more neutral tones in the Natural throws. Either way, we've just had more stock of both, and in an increased range of colours.
The Diamond throws are slightly larger at 180cm x 130cm, while the Natural throws measure 150cm x 125cm. They are all made in India and imported to the UK by a BAFTS approved fair trade supplier. We hope they become a regular feature in the shop, and if they're popular we might try more soft furnishings such as bedspreads and pillows to complement the throws and rugs we already stock - let us know what you think!
