Buzzing in Hay on Wye

by Andrew Williams | August 29, 2018 | 0 Comments

We're delighted to be stocking a gorgeous new book called "A Honeybee Heart Has Five Openings" by local author Helen Jukes. As well as being beautiful to look at, it is a truly inspiring read, part memoir, part nature book, perfect for fans of Robert Macfarlane or Helen Macdonald.

Helen popped in this week to sign some copies, and she even has her very own "honeybee" stamp! We'll send out signed copies while stocks last for online orders we receive. If you're in Hay do pop in and check out the book, it is wonderful.

A quick apology to anyone looking at our very depleted chocolate selection at the moment - we have more arriving any day now! It has been very popular over the summer and our Chocolate Club is also gaining new members every week.

As soon as our precious box of chocs arrives we'll restock the website, but here's a sneak peek of some of the new flavours coming soon...

Champagne and Raspberries - perfect for a late summer treat!

Ginger and Lemon - brand new for Autumn 2018.

Hazelnut Nougat Brittle - one of a selection of new vegan options in the hand-scooped range.

72% Peru, "Cocoa not Cocaine" - a UN-backed project encouraging farmers to switch from cocaine trafficking to cocoa farming, part of the Labooko double range.

Plus we'll have more of our regular favourites - like Passion Fruit and Caramel with Thyme!

Sort Your Shapes With Beautiful Wooden Puzzles

by Andrew Williams | August 15, 2018 | 0 Comments

We love the range of wooden toys and jigsaws from Lanka Kade, who work in partnership with fair trade projects in Sri Lanka. Mostly made from sustainable rubber wood, these toys range from wooden spinners at £2 each up to incredible Noah's Arks at £150 - real sustainable heirlooms.

A new addition to our collection are these wooden shape sorters - perfect starter puzzles for little ones who aren't quite ready for jigsaws yet. We love the designs and they've been hugely popular in the shop so we're delighted to now have them online!

Turning the Tide on Plastic

by Andrew Williams | August 09, 2018 | 0 Comments

Before we embarked on the crazy journey of running Eighteen Rabbit we had another life as event managers in London, running a variety of projects for some amazing clients. We had a focus on sustainability and were involved in some quite technical work as well as doing a lot of champagne-tasting! One of our absolute favourites every year was running the Observer Ethical Awards, the "Oscars" of the eco calendar. This was headed up by the Observer's ethical living columnist, the fabulous Lucy Siegle, who has gone on to star in early evening TV as part of the One Show team.

Now Lucy has an inspiring new book out, "Turning the Tide on Plastic." Plastic waste has of course been in the news a lot lately, thanks in part to "Blue Planet," and Lucy's book provides both a warning about the scale of the problem, and some of the answers that might help us to turn it around before it's too late.

It feels great to be "reunited," albeit virtually, with Lucy and we wish her every success with her book!

Winning at Life with Fair-T :)

by Andrew Williams | August 01, 2018 | 0 Comments

We love Twitter, and we love competitions, so winning a competition on Twitter was always going to be a real highlight for us :)

We have followed Fair-T for a while now - they produce lovely patterned and plain tee shirts all with a great ethical story. So when we saw that they were doing a tee-shirt giveaway on Twitter e were straight in with the retweet!

Their website has a complete rundown of their supply chain so you can see exactly what you're buying in to - great transparency.

Their range has some cool, eye-catching designs, as well as loads of plain tees, perfect for layering or wearing on their own.

We're looking forward to receiving our prize shortly, and will be modelling it over the summer! Let us know which of the Fair-T designs catch your eye - we may even be able to stock some in the shop :)
